Ticks
Ticks are small arachnids that belong to the order Parasitiformes, known for their blood-feeding habits. They are commonly found in grassy and wooded areas, where they latch onto hosts such as mammals, birds, and sometimes reptiles, to feed on their blood. Ticks are vectors for various diseases, including Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and babesiosis, making them a significant public health concern. Their ability to transmit pathogens while feeding on hosts has led to efforts to control their populations and prevent tick-borne illnesses. Tick-bite prevention strategies include wearing protective clothing, using insect repellents, and conducting thorough tick checks after spending time outdoors, especially in tick-prone areas.
